The Enrollment Lottery is now completed.
We are continuing to accept Letters of Intent for all grades,
and children will be added to wait lists, first come, first served.
Please visit the Enrollment Process page for more information.
If you are interested in enrolling your child at Thomas MacLaren School, these are the mandatory steps you need to follow:
1. Submit a Letter of Intent using our online submission form which can be found by clicking here. The Letter of Intent serves as a demonstration of your interest to enroll your child at MacLaren; it in no way guarantees your child’s enrollment nor legally binds you to enroll your child. Letters of Intent are only good for the school year in which you are applying. We do not keep a waitlist past September 30 of the current school year. We also do not accept mid-year enrollment. Letters of Intent submitted no later than January 22 will be entered in our lottery which will take place on January 31, 2017. Those submitted after that will be offered enrollment, or added to a wait list, first come, first served.
2. Attend one Information Night. We hold three Information Nights during the Enrollment season:
3. Sign up your child for Diagnostic Testing (7th grade and up only). All students who are looking to transfer into MacLaren must take two diagnostic tests – one in math skills and one in literature/composition skills – to assess what grade the student is academically prepared for. Sometimes the outcome of the tests show that a child is not ready for the grade that a parent has requested. If that is the case, we will offer the parent the option of entering that child in the grade below. Please note that students transferring into 9th grade and above must have already completed Algebra I. Testing will begin in mid-January and then on a monthly basis thereafter. The Director of Admissions will contact parents with available testing time slots to choose from.
4. Provide proof of Free or Reduced Lunch qualification, if applicable. If your child currently qualifies for Free or Reduced Lunch, please forward to the Admissions Office a copy of the verification letter you received from your current school district. You can do this during the Letter of Intent submission by uploading the form directly, or you can email a copy or bring in a hard copy to the Admissions Office. We give preference in the lottery (up to 40% per section, per grade) for children that qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. If you have never applied for Free or Reduced Lunch, but believe you might qualify for that benefit, please fill out the Family Economic Survey found on our online Letter of Intent form. We will notify you of our preliminary assessment of your eligibility. All family economic information is kept strictly confidential.
If you have any questions about the Enrollment Process, please contact Katherine Brophy, Director of Admissions, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (719) 313-4488 x408.
