Receives Three Prestigious Awards
We are pleased to announce that Thomas MacLaren School has been granted three prestigious awards this past month: the designation as a "Distinction School" by our authorizer, the Charter School Institute, and the John Irwin Award and the High School Academic Growth Award from the Colorado Department of Education.
The designation of "Distinction School" is the highest accreditation ranking that our authorizer, the Charter School Institute, awards. It is for excellence in academic, financial and organizational performance. We are honored to have received this award all three years that they have offered it.
From the Colorado Department of Education, MacLaren received the High School Academic Growth Award for demonstrating the highest levels of academic growth in reading, writing and math of all 59 schools in the 1A category of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). The school also received the John Irwin Award for its achievement and growth performance over the past three years on the School Performance Framework. This is the fifth year that MacLaren has received this award.
Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students for all their hard work over the past several years. We are proud of you!
Thank you to UCCS Professor (and MacLaren parent) Dr. Radu Cascaval who invited four MacLaren upperclassmen and our MATLAB®/Physics teacher, Mr. Hlavin, to assist the UCCS/AFA team with their entry into the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition. Our students and Mr. Hlavin were able to travel out to SpaceX headquarters in California at the end of January to take part in the competition. It was a great experience for all those involved!
The Colorado Department of Education announced today that Thomas MacLaren School's Class of 2017 scored the highest composite score ever on the ACT in the state of Colorado - 29.8! We couldn't be more proud! Congratulations to our seniors and many thanks to the faculty and parents who have taught and supported them during these last six years at MacLaren. We look forward to a great senior year with these young men and women.
Following close behind the seniors, the current junior class also has news to be proud of. CDE announced today the PSAT overall mean scores and the Class of 2018 had the 3rd highest scores in the state. Way to go, Juniors! We are confident you will perform well on the SAT in the spring.
